Legal aid
There are various options for legal aid available to you if you are the person concerned in a case, who has been summoned to appear before the Maritime Disciplinary Court.
The NVV, Netherlands Association for Transport law, has compiled a list of maritime lawyers available for cases to be heard by the Maritime Disciplinary Court. This page of the NVV website provides information on legal aid and a list of lawyers specialised in maritime law.
The Nautilus trade union provides its members with legal aid. This page of the Nautilus website provides more information.
Nautilus International is a trade union and professional organisation which represents the interests of more than 20,000 maritime professionals in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Switzerland. Nautilus has members in all sectors of transport over water worldwide, from global oil tankers to river cruise vessels on inland waters.
Fair Treatment App
Nautilus members are employed in a hazardous branch of business, in which they are subject to many risks while executing their work. Criminalisation is a major issue for the maritime profession. Nautilus offers a Fair Treatment App in order to provide members with direct access to advice and legal support from the trade union following any incident at sea.
The broader Nautilus support network for fully subscribed members comprises a 24/7 help line, a global network of lawyers and JASON (Joint Assistance & Support network), the advisory and assistance system managed in collaboration with the 22 maritime trade unions in the Nautilus Federation.
If you are a member and are the person concerned in a case, who has been summoned to appear before the Maritime Disciplinary Court, Nautilus can provide a specialised lawyer and advice.
The Captains’ Association (NVKK) also provides its members with legal aid. If you are a member, feel free to contact the NVKK.
